Getting a good ranking in Yahoo!

To get referrals through search engines, get listed in Yahoo! Here's how to start...

Are you already in Yahoo! ?

Go to yahoo.com and type in your domain name (yourname.com) to see if you are listed. If your site is listed under "web pages" you are in the Google database which Yahoo! uses when it can't find the information in it's directory. If you are listed under "websites" you are already listed in the Yahoo! directory.

Getting listed

To get a listing in the Yahoo! directory, type www.yahoo.com, scoll to the bottom of the page and select "How to Suggest a Site". Read the directions carefully. The current fee for Yahoo! Express is a nonrefundable, recurring annual fee of $299 for each website submitted. It is reviewed by an editor.

Your submission

To help you choose the right category, see where your competition is listed. This can be one of the most challenging tasks. Most people do not search by category, but, when they enter key phrases, Yahoo! tries to match the phrases in the category name as well as in your title and description to figure out which websites to list.

Use your company name in the title and description. The description should contain your best key phrase because that is how people will find you. The Yahoo! editors have been editing (changing) submitted descriptions so make sure it's written to be "user friendly" and not just loaded with key phrases. Word your description carefully, you only get to change it once a year!
