Getting Visitors to Contact You
Ask Susan - Tip of the Month
July 2003

Congratulations! You've attracted visitors to your website. Now you want them to go to the Contact Page to e-mail or call you for more information, to arrange a meeting, or place an order (for example).

But how do you get them to that page? We saw the answer in action with the help of four young adults, when they used the website of one of our clients.

The website has a "Contact Us" link in three or four different locations on each page. We found that different users selected different links on different pages. The links that looked like ordinary text in a list of links were selected most often. The link that looked like a large graphic - really big, fat letters - was not selected at all.

The lessons learned from these four young adults are:
1) Provide simple text links to the "Contact Us" page in several locations on every page, including in a list of links
2) Avoid the splashy graphics!
